We’ve been busy at CreuTech working alongside writer and performer Chris Tally Evans on an exciting new immersive prototype: Cat’s Eyes.
The project is a comedy XR spin-off inspired by Dylan Thomas’s Under Milk Wood, re-imagining the world of Captain Cat through interactive and immersive storytelling. Developed as part of the Immersive Arts UK programme, this early prototype explores how theatre, comedy and technology can come together in new and unexpected ways.
One of the unique elements of Cat’s Eyes is that it draws on Chris’s own lived experience of Charles Bonnet syndrome, a condition where people with sight loss can experience vivid visual hallucinations. Rather than treating this as something purely clinical, Cat’s Eyes uses it as creative inspiration: imagining what Captain Cat might “see” in a world shaped by memory, imagination and humour.
At CreuTech, we supported the prototyping process by:
Capturing movement using AI-driven motion capture tools
Building interactive sequences in Unity’s Timeline
Developing workflows that allow voice, character actions and visual effects to sync seamlessly in VR
Helping create the project’s pitch deck to support future funding and development opportunities
The result is a playful, surreal and sometimes poignant glimpse into Captain Cat’s inner world, and the first step towards a full immersive production.
We’re excited to keep developing this project with Chris and partners across the Welsh creative tech community. Cat’s Eyes shows how lived experience, traditional storytelling and cutting-edge technology can combine to create something truly original.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to build this world, and bring Captain Cat’s visions to life.
