From Sculpture to Virtual World : Working with Lauren Jane

As part of the Immersive Arts UK programme, CreuTech had the opportunity to collaborate with sculptor Lauren Jane on her funded project. Lauren’s practice is rooted in the physical, her work explores material, form and texture through sculpture. Our shared challenge was to see how those tactile pieces could be reimagined in an immersive, digital space.

Together we prototyped a new approach. Using 3D scanning, we captured Lauren’s sculptures in fine detail, bringing their textures and forms into a virtual environment. From there, we began building a world made entirely from these scans, a space where her physical artworks could be explored, re-contextualised and experienced in new ways.

The process was experimental and collaborative. Lauren brought her sculptural knowledge and artistic intent, while CreuTech provided the technical expertise to scan, optimise and assemble the assets into a digital environment. What emerged was a prototype world that retained the feel of her sculptural practice while opening it up to fresh audiences through immersive technology.

This collaboration showed the potential for traditional artforms and immersive tools to meet in unexpected ways. By extending sculpture into virtual space, Lauren’s work could be experienced not just as static objects but as an environment to move through, shifting how we engage with material art.

For CreuTech, working with Lauren Jane reinforced the value of collaboration across disciplines. Projects like this don’t just produce prototypes, they create new ways of thinking about what art can become when physical and digital worlds meet.
