Immersive Arts UK: Collaborating with Nadia Wazera

As part of the Immersive Arts UK programme, CreuTech collaborated with painter and artist Nadia Wazera to experiment with how her work could be experienced beyond the canvas.

We began by exploring ways to use AI and projection mapping to bring subtle movement into her paintings. One piece depicting waves became the centre of the prototype: using AI, we animated the brushstrokes so the sea seemed to shift and flow. We then projection-mapped these moving elements back onto the original canvas, layering them with fragments of text to create a living artwork.

Alongside this, we built a mixed reality environment where audiences could be surrounded by Nadia’s art in three dimensions. The goal wasn’t to replace her paintings, but to extend them, giving viewers the sensation of stepping inside her work and experiencing its textures, colours and meanings in a new way.

The process culminated in a test exhibition in Bangor, where members of the public were invited to try the prototype. The feedback was hugely positive, showing how audiences connected both with the familiarity of the original paintings and the new immersive layer we created together.

For CreuTech, this project highlighted the exciting potential of combining traditional painting with AI, projection and XR. By blending physical and digital practices, Nadia’s work was able to reach audiences in fresh and unexpected ways, and this prototype is just the first step in her journey into immersive arts.
